외신기자의 이태원'CRUSH'를 본 소감 > 자유게시판

이태원 참사를 다룬 '크러쉬'를 방금 봤습니다. 현재 한국에서는 공식적으로 제공되지 않습니다. 

몇가지 단상 : 약 90분 동안 그날 밤에 무슨 일이 일어났는지 알고 싶고 이해하고 싶다면 추천합니다. 

디테일과 장면이 보기에 끔찍합니다.

특히 영상과 CCTV를 통해 무고한 사람들이 어떻게 이태원역 통로에 갇혀 질식해 죽게 되었는지 시각적으로 자세히 보여줍니다.

경보음이 울렸을 때에도 당국이 그들을 보호하지 않았다는 사실을 매우 분명하게 보여줍니다.

다큐는 크게 그날 밤에 일어난 일과 진상규명/정의/책임규명을 위한 싸움으로 나뉩니다.

현재까지 정부의 공식적인 사과는 없었으며, 예방가능했던 인재에 대해 최고 책임자를 포함해 그 누구도 형사적 책임을 지지 않았습니다.

한편, 한국에서는 왜 국내에서는 볼 수 없는지에 대한 논란이 일고 있습니다. 기술적으로 한국에서는 볼 수 없는 파라마운트 플러스에 올라와 있습니다. 하지만 한국 파트너인 티빙에서는 (현재) 공개되지 않고 있습니다.

파라마운트 플러스 웹사이트의 예고편도 한국에서는 차단되어 있습니다. 그래도 한국에서는 볼 수 있어야 하는 중요한 스토리텔링입니다. 어쨌든 1주기를 앞두고  다큐가 나올때가 된 것이고. 기회가 된다면 꼭 보시기 바랍니다.

Just watched "Crush", about the Itaewon disaster. It's currently not officially available in South Korea. A few quick thoughts: Would recommend it if you want to know and understand what happened that night in about 90 mins. The details and scenes are harrowing to watch.

In particular, it goes into great visual detail using footage and CCTV, shows how innocent people ended up in that passageway by Itaewon station, many suffocating to death. It makes it very clear that authorities were not there to protect them even when alarm bells were raised.

It's essentially divided into two parts: what happened that night, and the fight for answers/justice/accountability. To date there has been no official apology, no one has been held criminally accountable for a man-made disaster that was preventable - including at the top.

Meanwhile, controversy is brewing in Korea as to why it is not available for viewing here. It's on Paramount Plus, which is not technically available in South Korea. But it's not being released (right now) on Tving, their Korean partner.

Even the trailer on the Paramount Plus website is blocked in South Korea. it's still important storytelling that should be available in South Korea. It was timed to come out ahead of the anniversary after all. Watch it if and when you can.
